Artistic Expression is found in many forms around the world.    In the fine arts world, artists today have freedom to choose from many different styles; from traditional, to abstract, to modern, to post modern, to conceptual.

Art is not as easily defined in our modern world as it was in the past. Definitions of art can be varied, but the bottom line seems to be that a piece is considered to be art once the artists defines it as art.

Is it art or a suit of clothes?

You might be surprised to discover that it is an art piece by Joseph Beuys, owned by the Art Institute of Chicago.  Beuys was a German fighter pilot who was shot down during World War II.  He was rescued and nursed back to health by peasants who kept him warm with felt blankets.  So he had a special feeling for felt and used it in many of his art pieces.

Artisans use their artistic expression for a different purpose.  They produce things that have a utilitarian function, be it spiritual, ritual or for daily use.
